Die Gruppe der Aipichthyoidei ist mit mindestens vier Spezies vertreten. Eine vorläufige Beschreibung erfolgte 2013 in Mesozoic Fishes 5; dieses Exemplar wurde von A. Murray als Typ B identifiziert. Die ausführliche Beschreibung und Namensgebung erfolgte 2014 durch Murray und Wilson.
